about us
Wirral Vocal Workshop was the idea of Debbie Byrne, mother of four children, who lives on the Wirral. With many years experience of being in bands and doing studio recording, Debbie’s interest in singing and music was passed on to her children who are members of various music and drama groups.
Inspiration for the venture came while Debbie watched a production from a local drama group attended by one of her children. Debbie realised that although the play was excellent and the children and young people showed their talent for acting and dancing, there was no singing. This gave Debbie the idea of starting a class to teach and encourage young people to sing. Her class would be affordable allowing children from families were money was tight to explore their interest in music and particularly using their voices.
Debbie approached Bebington CVS for advice on setting up her group and was given permission to use Mayer Hall as a venue for her new venture. Classes began with a modest five students but the number has steadily increased with many budding stars, boys and girls, now attending regularly. As word spreads, Debbie hopes Wirral Vocal Workshop will go from strength to strength!
Wirral Vocal Workshop are available to do any charity gigs/performances. Please get in touch with us via the contact page.
The group is a non-profit making venture – young people pay a small fee to attend each week and this helps to cover running costs and each child gets to go into the studio to record on a regular basis There has also been some recent fund raising success as the group was awarded a grant from the Community Foundation to purchase vital equipment in 2006.
Debbie said: “If there are any music students, vocalists or musicians out there who would like to donate their time and expertise to coaching our group we would also be delighted to hear from you!”
Debbie added: “Wirral Vocal Workshop is about getting pleasure from singing and any young person who likes to sing; who would like to learn more about singing or just have the opportunity to sing with other people would be very welcome to come along. Not only is it great fun, it builds confidence and is a great way to make new friends!”
